Why I'm A Dentist
My Dental Training
Breaking my front tooth started me on a path to dentistry
I chose a career in dentistry after a Scout camp believe it or not. The military had come down with their death slide. We were practising a parachute drop, and one of the buckles hadn’t been tied properly and flew up in my face breaking my front tooth.
I was about 12 years old when this happened and it’s stayed with me ever since, and I think it was probably this event that first got me thinking about a career in dentistry.
I trained to be a dentist in Leeds, starting in 1997. After graduating I studied for the Diploma in Restorative Dentistry, Royal College. In addition I trained to do dental sedation, several orthodontic systems and quite a few managerial courses.
Revolutionising a nervous patient’s life with sedation
My most outstanding moment of my career to date was meeting a very lovely lady in her fifties, she is absolutely petrified of coming to see the dentist.
Sedation entirely revolutionised her life. We were able to remove a couple of teeth, provide dental implants, gum treatment, all these things that she would never have thought possible.
Not only that we also fitted a couple of crowns which were made on the same day with our CEREC machine.
She’s one of our most loyal customers now, a great ambassador telling all her friends about us, that’s one of the reasons I love treating nervous patients.
